Spotlighting Change: Making a Difference During Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivor Awareness Month

As we observe Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivor Awareness Month, it’s vital to shed light on the organizations making a meaningful impact in the lives of survivors.

Survivors of sexual assault frequently grapple with feelings of shame and stigma, which can severely affect their mental health. Caring for Denver grantees, The Blue Bench and Wings, work to dismantle these barriers by creating safe spaces for survivors to connect with one another and with trained providers.

The Blue Bench offers a wealth of resources that help individuals understand their experiences and provide them with tools to cope and heal. Wings specifically serves adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, providing referrals to counseling resources and specialized support groups for adult survivors that promote healing and resilience.

Our staff, program officer Jacquie Esquibel and senior program officer Raymael Blackwell, sat down with these experts to discuss the challenges survivors face and the transformative work they do.

We invite you to read our extended interview with representatives from both organizations, where they delve deeper into the mental health implications of sexual assault and the various interventions available for healing. By engaging with their stories, we can all contribute to a larger dialogue about healing and recovery.
